What do you need in order to score points?
That's right, you need a goal !But how exactly do we define a goal ? Well, that's easy :
A goal is quite simply something that we want to do, something that we want to be or something that we want to have , which at this point in time we are not, we don't do or we don't have.
All successful people have got goals. Research at Yale University has shown that only 3% of the population have got specific, written down goals. Interestingly enough, the same group of people are usually worth more than the remaining 97% of the population altogether by the time they have reached the age of 65 - wow !
So why is that ? Maybe that's because they knew where they were going !Wouldn't it be easier to throw together a jigsaw puzzle if you knew what the outcome was going to look like ? You bet so !
Jerry Clark once made the following statement : "If you don't know where you are going, the last thing you want to do is get there any quicker." I believe that this is very true.
He also believes that most people die at the age of 25 but don't get buried until the age of 95 !
They wake up one morning with the sinking feeling that things are not quite right - the feeling that they've been had. Make sure you aren't one of them !
But what has happened there ? And how has it happened ? These individuals suddenly realise that their lives are almost over, and that they haven't lived their dream. Life seems to have gone by so quickly. These realisations can be very sad, and also extremely painful.
Somewhere along the line, things have gone wrong. These folks have allowed themselves "to go with the flow", and "to be swept along." In addition, they have learned not to be too demanding. After all, one shouldn't be too selfish, right ?
But how exactly do those people know that things aren't going well ? They know because they feel tired, broke and miserable. And disheartened.
However, for some of them this can be the vital and much needed turning point. And if that is the case, then that's great - as it's never too late. For a few others things won't ever change though - as all they want to do is to sit on their pitypots and feel sorry for themselves. Bless !
So how about you ? What does your heart truly desire ? And what are your very personal goals, ambitions and dreams ? Have you got any ? If the answer is no, then I strongly suggest that you get some. When ? Now ! But why now ? Because if you don't do it now, then all you are going to get is old.
Isn't it amazing that most people seem to spend hours and days planning their summer holidays, but never spend a minute on designing their lives ? It just seems crazy ! I actually find it fascinating...
But let's move on. All heroes tend to go from tragedy to triumph. Do we want more tragedy ? No ! Do we want triumph? Yes!
Start by asking yourself the following questions, and then write down the answers - in depth. By the way, have you got your pen ready ? Remember, the winning 3% of the population are putting their goals down in writing :-)
What do you really want from your life ? On all levels ? Emotionally, physically, mentally, vocationally, spiritually and financially ? What would bring you true happiness ? And why ? Who would you ideally want to spend your time with ? How much money would you like to be worth ? Where would you like to have been and been seen ? What would that mean to you ? And what would it feel like ?
Now that you know what you really want, and why you want it, you can create an action plan. Start with the overall goal, and then break it down into small, achievable baby steps. Don't try to achieve everything at once.
Why not ? Because winners pace themselves, whilst losers only know two speeds : hysterical and lethargic.
Have fun along the way : live everyday with passion, and with the knowledge that life is a wonderful, precious gift, worthy to be celebrated and lived to it's fullest.
Having the knowledge that you are now designing and manifesting your dream, you can easily go from boring to scoring !
